CHAPEL HILL --- Home duals against national powers Nebraska and Iowa State as well as ACC rivals NC State, Virginia and Virginia Tech highlight the 2016-17 North Carolina wrestling schedule, head coach Coleman Scott announced this week. Carolina opens the season at the Hokie Open on Nov. 6 before traveling to the Northeast Duals on Nov. 13. The Tar Heels then kick off their home schedule on Nov. 19 with a Saturday night dual against Old Dominion. "I think this is a great schedule that will really challenge our guys," Scott said. "We're going to have to grind through January and February to be in a position to compete for championships in the postseason. It's exciting to have some new teams on the schedule like Nebraska and Iowa State to go with what should be the most competitive ACC rotation in many years. I look forward to seeing how our guys rise to the challenge in front of them." Following a road trip to face Appalachian State on Nov. 27, UNC will host Nebraska on Dec. 10 before traveling to Chattanooga for the 2017 Southern Scuffle on Jan. 1-2. The Tar Heels will then travel to the American Duals on Jan. 6 before returning home for their ACC opener against defending league dual champion Virginia Tech on Jan. 8. Other road duals include trips to Arizona State on Jan. 20 and Gardner-Webb on Feb. 10 and visits to league foes Pitt (Jan. 28) and Duke (Feb. 8). Carolina will host Iowa State on Jan. 14 and NC State's appearance at Carmichael Arena on Jan. 23 figures to be a highlight of the late-season schedule. UNC will host Virginia on Feb. 3 for the team's home finale. The 2017 ACC Championships are set for March 4 in Raleigh. The season will culminate with the 2017 NCAA Wrestling Championships in St. Louis, Missouri, on March 16-18. North Carolina Wrestling
